All day I am inundated with texts from politicians I’ve never heard of in far away states and by our alleged leaders…pleading for $5…if only money were the solution! We all be giving our life savings…Dems have chosen to treat their constituents like idiots the way the Republicans do to those they betray daily…no doubt money is needed, but STOP these shameful, annoying, disingenuous campaigns that not only destroys credibility and respect, it causes EVERYONE I know convinced they should NOT donate because no god act goes unpunished by literally thousands of messages…my lady keeps asking who I’m ‘talking to’ because my phone lights up especially around dinner time…I bet some relationships have been damaged over these destructive messages…all I do is swipe left, curse, and press BLOCK…what fool wants to give money so they can be harassed, on my count, 34 times a day!!??? Wake up, ‘leaders’! As a former COO in financial services and 20 years with a second career as a coach and counselor to senior executives, I would suggest that Demonstrable Leadership, Strategy, and Action will generate more funds than a bloody tin cup…leave the tin cups to NPR and PBS who now truly need them because they weren’t better protected, and whose fault is that?
I could not agree more. Perhaps in your effort not to identify individual politicians you left out one of the more egregious text forms: the ones that claim to be personal texts from well-respected politicians. “Christine, this is Barack Obama,” my phone will announce. Or Cory Booker. Or Hakeem Jeffries. Or Whoever. “No, it’s not,” I respond as I hit “block” and “delete.”
The Dems’ rock bottom poll ratings are only possible if they are losing their own. The brand is a mess. Those toxic texts can’t be helping and they surely can’t be bringing in any money. I’d actually concluded they must be coming from fringe fundraising groups who highjacked the mailing list. It makes NO sense for the Dems to be doing this to themselves.
This is extortion of the most disgusting type. Where are we to go for leadership with one party seeking to destroy our heritage and the other seeking to cash in on our frustration?
Our path forward is far more treacherous than I had imagined. As an Independent Voter, vilified by both parties and blocked from equitable candidacy and voting rules in Arizona, I search in vain for some legitimate rationale for our rickety two-party political system's dominance.
We have a lot of work to do to reclaim our potential for restoring a positive answer to Benjamin Franklin's warning about the Constitution's gift to America: "A Republic, if you can keep it."
Excellent article about the deeply disturbing and repulsive fundraising tactics of the DCCC - I found myself added without my knowledge or consent to other politicians' fundraising lists (like Jon Ossoff), despite residing in California. I am especially repelled by the emotional manipulation being most likely to be successful with elderly voters whose cognitive faculties are declining. Thank you for recommending that we contact our electeds and let them know we find these strategies to be unacceptable.
It has been unsettling to watch the Democrats make so many wrong-headed moves in recent years, including this new style of fundraising which is so annoying one wonders how it can possibly be productive. I’m so glad you wrote this article. I’ve been annoyed about this practice for several election cycles. I certainly will call my representatives and senators at both state and federal levels. This is clearly a turn off! And abuse.!
Finally! I am long past responding to these endless texts and emails pleading for money. Seems we are on the road to perdition, rather than offering a reasoned response to the treacherous Trump machine. What can the creators of these messages be thinking? How to disengage from your supporters and surrender the keys to the Republicans? Mission accomplished, so far!

Why is simple ( I think) Act Blue has turned into a cash uncontrollable cow! It’s gotten too big, too outrageous in its chutzpah..and powerful and is clearly being looked at as the fundraising model. A billion here and there. But something is wrong and they are being investigated’as per google’. They go to Obama and he says sure I’ll help then he doesn’t need to fo more… even if you’re unfamiliar and running for City Council. They are the go to model and they do nothing without an ‘ask’ ….. they do the bookkeeping do you font get in trouble .. they are the end all! But something is wrong and clearly NO ONE wants to say, “uh we have a problem!!” It is easy to get in trouble with election laws and the reporting/ accounting of elections. So Act Blue said, “ we’ll do it” and that they have…. Now a behemoth and phony as hell. They took over a billion out of capacity for Kamala. Right now mAGA has 200 million sitting in their campaign coffer and we have insulting requests. As in the above.
Great piece. Unfortunately, nothing will happen. How do I know? After working for Kerry / Edwards in 2004 I noticed the same thing and started the National Political Do Not Contact Registry. In the 2008 cycle I got tons of interest, including testifying in the US Senate on robocalls. I asked 100s of candidates to pledge to agree to not contact voters on my list (it reached almost 1m voters) only 3 or 4 agreed to do so.
Between the texts, emails, and phone calls, all I hear from Democrats is how much money they desperately need. But for what? What's their agenda? What are their core beliefs? I won't just give money for office space or letterheads.

I’ve copied some of these texts into a Word doc (“tears of joy” or just “tears”, “we’re on our knees begging”,“Barack Obama BREAKS his silence “ among many other stupid manipulative texts) and sent it to the DNC in the postage paid envelope in which their snail mail money request arrived, along with an angry letter. Next I will try contacting my Senators and rep (all Democrats). I’m so furious with the Democratic Party I could spit.
First, I never give my cell number. Second, if I were to receive one, I would opt out. If that doesn't work, I block it as spam. I have NEVER received a text from any politician. And I do plenty of donating.

I don’t accept ANY of them, but I keep getting them! I wish there was an “off” button!
